Feral Cats Initiative

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!

Director: Dr. Corinne Thomas D.V.M.

The need for this project in our area is overwhelming and the response from local programs in working together to make this happen has been very strong.

Feral Cat Colonies in the northernmost part of Colorado's Front Range and into Wyoming are under distress. These cats and kittens are being shot, drowned and poisoned by local residents as a means to control the population. Why? Because this issue has not been addressed by any organization in northern Colorado and Wyoming. There are several individuals that are trying to provide for the few colonies that they can, but they are suffering financially to the point of losing their homes. This does no good for the feral colonies that they are trying to help or for their emotional well-being.

This program is well underway with colonies in Greeley, Kersey, Loveland, Carr, Nunn, Cheyenne, Fort Collins, and Milliken. Each of these colonies has a caretaker.

The goal for 2007-2008 is to TNR a minimum of 200 cats who will then be returned to their feral colonies vaccinated and in good health. Through your kind donations, the Sanctuary will continue to provide food and housing needs for each of these feral colonies.

Donations are needed for this program. The following lists ways that you can help to end feral cat suffering and overpopulation.

Cash donations towards spay/neuter, vaccination, FIV/FELV testing and other needed veterinary drugs are always needed.

In Kind Donations:

  • Motor home in good working condition that will be converted into a mobile veterinary clinic.
  • Spay Packs: 50 total

Denkai Animal Sanctuary has been organized to operate exclusively for charitable, scientific, prevention of cruelty to animals, and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

This Sanctuary provides adoption services and a permanent home for close to 90 animals including horses, llamas, pot bellied pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, dogs and even a few cats.

We operate through kind volunteers, and in turn give them the opportunity to foster compassion for these abused and neglected animals by helping with their maintenance and rehabilitation. We also work with several local educational establishments and have worked with mentally and physically challenged adults and kids. We believe in helping these animals and giving back to the community.
