Honorary Volunteers

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!

Denkai Sanctuary is operated on a volunteer basis, so we are grateful for
anyone who wants to help in any capacity.

April 2007

Bridget Spangler has been an amazing volunteer with our Sanctuary since 2005. Along with her husband and 5 children, Bridget has opened her heart to many of our Sanctuary animals providing a foster home, adoptive home and in the meantime aiding in rescuing numerous wonderful animals in need.

Originally from Ohio, where she ran her own dog and cat rescue, Bridget has made an enormous impact on our Organization and we are happy to have her as part of the Denkai Family!

August 2006

Shanon Chalmers is our August 2006 Volunteer of the Month and currently serves as the off-site Volunteer Coordinator for the sanctuary. Shanon is currently pursuing a Master's in Special Education and has a background in fine arts and in working with at-risk youth as a counselor and program manager. Shanon hopes to one day use her degree as a stepping stone in order to establish a humane education curriculum program for at-risk youth who have never had the opportunity to learn about animal welfare and how to properly care and interact with an animal. Establishing a feral cat socialization program is also one of Shanon's top priorities.

April 2006

Katie is home schooled and has plans to graduate high school next year. She is crazy about horses and has been very eager to learn the ropes here at the Sanctuary. She has been working really hard with our littlest man, one of the 5 miniature horses rescued over the winter. She has him leading well, running in circles and he has gained and enormous amount of weight thanks to all of the marvelous attention he is getting from Katy. Katie puts in approximately 10 hours per week at the Sanctuary and her help is very valued here!

Katie would like nothing more than to have a horse to ride and her very own saddle! If you know of anybody that would be willing to help her in any way with achieving her lifelong goals, please contact us! (The Sanctuary does not have ride able horses at this point in time)

 Kathryn with Sweet Pea

December 2005

Kathryn has made an enormous impact with the sanctuary. Whether her duties include cleaning and organizing, feeding animals, walking dogs or picking up donations, Kathryn is always game and reliable! Kathryn puts in over 20 hours per month with us.

Denkai Animal Sanctuary has been organized to operate exclusively for charitable, scientific, prevention of cruelty to animals, and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

This Sanctuary provides adoption services and a permanent home for close to 90 animals including horses, llamas, pot bellied pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, dogs and even a few cats.

We operate through kind volunteers, and in turn give them the opportunity to foster compassion for these abused and neglected animals by helping with their maintenance and rehabilitation. We also work with several local educational establishments and have worked with mentally and physically challenged adults and kids. We believe in helping these animals and giving back to the community.
