GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!

Bucky is doing much better!! Look at his improvement.
December 2006

Bucky was a stray dog, running the streets of Loveland, for how long, we are not sure. What we do know is that he has tested positive for EPI, Endocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. This means that his pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes, therefore resulting in poor digestion and absorption of his food. You can see his condition from the pictures.

Bucky entered our Sanctuary about two months ago and has been receiving his  Violase-V daily. These enzymes are necessary to help him begin digesting his food adequately.

Bucky is only 4 years old, he can live a long, happy and healthy life if you can just help by purchasing these needed enzymes for him. This is on a continual basis at this point. The Cost equals $127.35 and you can donate by calling Blue Sky Animal Clinic at (970) 663-6046 today and letting them know you would like to donate towards Bucky at Denkai Animal Sanctuary!  Please don't wait, Bucky needs you!

Bear Recovery Update

Bear is having a blast with Kristie Fisher and her family of pets! She is free of her e-collar and has had her outside pins removed. She is a happy pup, running with her doggie friends!

We are still seeking donations to help us cover the veterinary bill of $1,500.00, so far, $500.00 has been raised.

We'd like to say a big 'Thank You!' to all of you that have made donations towards Bear's medical bills and recovery costs.

Victory for America's Pets (and their People)
August 4, 2006

The U.S. Senate unanimously approved its version of the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act. The U.S. House of Representatives passed its version in May by an overwhelming vote. Congress has taken an important step in ensuring that Americans will never again be forced to leave their pets behind when disaster strikes, as happened during Hurricane Katrina.

The bill passed by the House calls for emergency preparedness plans to include consideration of people with pets and service animals before a disaster strikes. The Senate bill contains additional and strengthening provisions. The Humane Society of the United States supports both bills, but we hope the House will take up and approve the Senate version because it is more comprehensive. We are approaching the one-year mark of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and hurricane season is upon us again. Final passage of the PETS Act will be a priority when Congress returns from recess in September. More...

Update Rescued Miniatures

Four miniature horses rescued over the winter are gaining ground and have made nearly a full recovery after being nearly starved to death this winter.

This is Lena. She is looking GREAT!

Here is Little Man. He was one of the toughest ones to get going again, but he is really doing well and has found his voice at the sanctuary.

Stop Canada's Massive Seal Hunt
August 1, 2006

The 2006 Canadian seal hunt left more than 336,000 seals dead -- almost all of them were babies as young as 12 days old.

Stand with me today and stop the seal hunt forever by joining the Canadian seafood boycott. (http://hsus.ga4.org/campaign/protectseals/)

Once you've signed the pledge, you'll be able to identify Canadian seafood by using HSUS's downloadable pocket guide. You can also find out which restaurants and other businesses have also signed the pledge--and which ones to contact to ask them to sign on.

Thanks for joining me in ending this awful hunt.

TRUCKS DONATED!!

After two years of searching, we finally have two pickup trucks that are being donated to us. The first is a 2000 Ford F250 from Western Summit Constructors out of Denver, Colorado.

The second a 2000 Ford F350 is coming from Duke Energy out of Greeley, CO. These donations could not have come at a better time, right as we are moving! Both of these trucks were desperately needed and will be cherished and used well!

$10,000.00 Donated by Local Benefactor

As a local non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Denkai Animal Sanctuary has made an enormous impact in the lives of many people and animals in our community.

Amazingly, one of these wonderful people has stepped up and offered a donation of $10,000 to us, but has requested that we find matching funds for this amount.

Neglected Animals Rescued
January 2006

We were recently called in on a number of miniature horses, one of which we were told was ill and "would not get up to eat or drink". We were asked to come help as the owner could not afford a vet bill.

We arrived on scene shortly after this call to find that this small miniature horse, only a year old had died due to neglect. Its hooves were approximately 12 inches in length to the point that this poor soul could not walk or stand in order to eat or drink. It takes a long time for a horse to die of starvation, this had obviously gone on for quite a while and the horse had died long before we were called in.

There were a number of other miniature horses, llama, and goats on the property as well. None of these animals had any water to drink, it was all frozen solid, there was no hay or food on the property and in the new fallen snow from the night before, there were no foot prints to their pens. NOBODY had fed these animals in at least a day!

Animal control was called in and the dead baby horse has been taken in to be examined and the case is under investigation. The other miniature horses, llama and goats would have been dead in another 24 hours had we not convinced the owner to surrender them to the sanctuary. All of them show strong signs of malnourishment, starvation, and anguish.

The sanctuary needs help from you and any of contacts that you might have in order to spread the word on this. These horses are in need of high quality grass hay, veterinary services for floating of teeth and assessment of the two females as to whether they are pregnant or not and funding for worming, floating of teeth and building a permanent shelter for them.

The community needs to know what to watch for with things such as this and how it can be prevented!

Please call us at (970) 897-3122 during the day or (970) 308-6275 in the early mornings and after dark.

Denkai Animal Sanctuary has been organized to operate exclusively for charitable, scientific, prevention of cruelty to animals, and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

This Sanctuary provides adoption services and a permanent home for close to 90 animals including horses, llamas, pot bellied pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, dogs and even a few cats.

We operate through kind volunteers, and in turn give them the opportunity to foster compassion for these abused and neglected animals by helping with their maintenance and rehabilitation. We also work with several local educational establishments and have worked with mentally and physically challenged adults and kids. We believe in helping these animals and giving back to the community.
