Sasha

Hi everyone at Denkai!

I just wanted to let you know how Sasha is doing. (We call her Rosie > now.) She is one of the most kind, loving horses I have ever had. She quickly put on weight and grew all of her missing hair back. She went to the vet to have her teeth floated, and found she was not in foal. She seems sound. Once she was back in good health, I saddled her with a kids saddle and shortly after got on with absolutely no reaction.

The next time I saddled her with a bigger saddle and rode her a couple of times. She is completely, saddle broke, but she had absolutely no "steering". She didn't appear to understand even following her nose around, which leads me to believe that she may have been a pack horse.

I am working with her on the ground as well as in the saddle on flexing and "following her nose". She is just so calm about everything - I would feel comfortable putting anyone on her.

The pictures below are of Rosie with my oldest son who has ridden maybe twice in his life. He rode her in his sandals. He understood that he had to plow rein her and they did great. We just walked around the neighborhood. (The black horse is also a horse like Rosie - very kind, good for beginners, in no hurry to get anywhere... The girl on her had never ridden before.)

Rosie will be/almost is an excellent walk/trot horse for anyone as she is in no hurry to get anywhere. I have even taken her to Frontier Park (Frontier Days' Arena) and she was un-phased by all of the crowds, heavy equipment, etc. I will keep you posted and send some more pictures of just her that will be better for the website soon.

I am so very happy to announce that Sasha has gone to her new home with Michele in Cheyenne. Sasha is a 9 year old bay QH mare. Her eyes were swollen shut and she was barely able to walk when we first came upon her at the Stockyard.

What a magnificent change! Sasha has gained weight, had her hooves trimmed, which she did a pretty darn good job for considering she hadn't been worked with in quite a while. Darrin, the farrier spoke to us about her front heel, which had been torn off in an injury at some point in her life. She did her best to make him eat dirt, but he wasn't having it!

Sasha with her new momma, Michele!

Sasha arrives at Denkai....

Sasha is a sweetheart 9 year old Bay Mare. When I first saw her at the Stockyard, her eyes were swollen shut due to infection and being slammed around in the trailer to and from the Dekalb plant. Her eyes are back to normal now with only a few scratches to show. I pulled about 12 ticks off of her and then medicated her and the rest of the bunch for these little crawlies!

Sasha continues to gain weight and is looking forward to her new home with Michelle in Wyoming!

Denkai Animal Sanctuary has been organized to operate exclusively for charitable, scientific, prevention of cruelty to animals, and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

This Sanctuary provides adoption services and a permanent home for close to 90 animals including horses, llamas, pot bellied pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, dogs and even a few cats.

We operate through kind volunteers, and in turn give them the opportunity to foster compassion for these abused and neglected animals by helping with their maintenance and rehabilitation. We also work with several local educational establishments and have worked with mentally and physically challenged adults and kids. We believe in helping these animals and giving back to the community.
